the process

STEP 1

Consultation: We will evaluate your tooth and make sure we have exhausted all options of saving the tooth. Your medical history will be reviewed and x-rays taken. Pre-op instructions are reviewed and antibiotics prescribed as needed.

STEP 2

Extraction: The tooth will be atraumatically extracted. Light to moderate sedation options are available in addition to the included local anesthetic.

STEP 3

Implant Placement: If necessary, we build the bone to set a good foundation and support for the implant. Dr. Kim will then place the implant into the socket on the same day.

STEP 4

Recovery: Once the surgery is complete, we allow the implant to integrate with your bone for 3-4 months.

STEP 5

Implant Crown: You’ll get fitted for a beautiful implant crown to match your natural smile.

FAQ

What’s the difference between immediate implants and delayed implants?

Delayed implants require you to wait a few months for the extraction site to fully heal. Sometimes, this is absolutely necessary– when there is an infection there or when we are limited on bone. Delayed implants usually require a few more visits. Immediate implants allow you to place an implant at the same time as extracting a tooth, making the process shorter.

How do I know if I’m a candidate for immediate implants?

Although you might be a good candidate for implants, you might not be one for immediate implants. The best candidates for immediate implants are those with an overall healthy smile and sufficient jawbone foundation. A consultation with Dr. Kim will determine which implants are right for you.

Are immediate implants painful?

The dental implant procedure is generally well-tolerated. Local anesthesia is used during surgery, and most patients experience mild discomfort during recovery, which can be managed with medication.

How long do immediate implants last?

With proper care, dental implants can last 20 years or longer. The titanium post integrates with the jawbone, creating a strong and lasting foundation for your new teeth. For a personalized care plan, schedule a visit to determine what’s best for you.

How do I take care of my implants?

Dental implants require regular brushing, flossing, and routine check-ups just like natural teeth.
