Emergency Dentist in Apex, NC — Same-Day Appointments at Magnolia Way Dentistry

Dental emergencies rarely happen at convenient times — and waiting them out almost always makes things worse. Whether you’re dealing with sudden severe tooth pain, a broken tooth, a knocked-out tooth, or a swollen jaw, Magnolia Way Dentistry provides prompt, same-day emergency dental care in Apex, NC whenever possible.

Patients of record also have access to after-hours support for urgent guidance when the office is closed.

Common Dental Emergencies We Treat

Dr. Wayand and the team are experienced in diagnosing and treating a wide range of urgent dental situations, including:

• Severe or persistent toothache

• Chipped, cracked, or broken tooth

• Knocked-out (avulsed) tooth

• Loose or partially dislodged tooth

• Lost filling, crown, or dental restoration

• Dental abscess or infection (swelling, pus, fever)

• Swelling of the face, gums, or jaw

• Soft tissue injury — cuts to gums, cheeks, or lips

What to Do Before You Reach the Office

While getting to a dentist quickly is always the priority, here’s what you can do for the most common emergencies:

Severe Toothache

Rinse your mouth gently with warm water. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum or tooth — it can damage soft tissue. Over-the-counter pain medication may help temporarily, but the underlying cause needs to be evaluated and treated.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Handle the tooth by the crown (top), not the root. Rinse it gently with water if dirty — do not scrub. Try to reinsert it into the socket if possible; if not, keep it moist in a cup of milk or between your cheek and gum. Time is critical — call the office immediately.

Broken or Cracked Tooth

Rinse with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on the affected side. Even if there’s no pain, broken teeth are vulnerable to infection and further damage — prompt treatment is important.

Dental Abscess or Swelling

Do not wait on a swollen jaw or gum abscess. Dental infections can spread rapidly and become a serious medical situation. Call for emergency care immediately, and if the swelling is affecting your breathing or swallowing, go to the nearest emergency room.

What Happens During an Emergency Dental Visit

Emergency visits at Magnolia Way Dentistry are focused on two things: relieving your pain quickly, and identifying what needs to happen next. The visit typically includes:

• A prompt clinical evaluation and X-ray if needed

• Pain relief — local anesthesia and, where appropriate, prescription medication

• Stabilization of the affected tooth or area

• A clear explanation of what’s happened and what treatment is required

• Scheduling of any follow-up care needed to fully resolve the issue

Even in urgent situations, Dr. Wayand takes the time to explain what’s happening and what your options are. You won’t leave confused about your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently with water — don’t scrub. Try to reinsert it into the socket, or keep it moist in milk or between your cheek and gum. Call Magnolia Way Dentistry immediately. The sooner you’re seen, the better the chances of saving the tooth.

A dental emergency is any situation involving severe pain, bleeding, swelling, injury to teeth or soft tissue, or signs of infection (swelling, fever, pus). Knocked-out teeth, severe toothaches, broken teeth, and dental abscesses all qualify as emergencies requiring same-day attention.

Same-day emergency appointments are available during regular office hours. For patients of record, after-hours support is also available for urgent situations that arise outside normal business hours. Call the main office number for instructions.

Magnolia Way Dentistry makes every effort to see emergency patients the same day they call. If you’re in pain or dealing with a dental injury, call the office first thing in the morning and explain your situation — the team will do everything possible to get you in promptly.

Yes — a dental abscess is a serious infection that requires prompt treatment. Do not wait. If you have significant facial swelling, fever, or difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to the nearest emergency room immediately. Otherwise, contact Magnolia Way Dentistry for same-day care.

I had an excellent experience at Magnolia Way Dentistry. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and made the visit feel very personal. I recently had a filling done, and it was the smoothest procedure I’ve ever had, everything was handled with true professionalism. Dr. John is outstanding and truly the best. Highly recommend!

This is an excellent dental practice with warm and caring staff. The dentist is young and most kind. I found them when I moved to town, but had to wait for my other dental insurance to expire so that I could sign up for their annual plan, which is a great deal - probably better than having dental insurance. Highly recommend.

Very pleasant first time experience here. The entire staff very pleasant and answered any questions I had. My cleaning was great, and teeth feel very clean. Dr. John took time to answer my questions and gave me advice on how to keep teeth clean. Over all a great dental practice. I also like that fact that it is a private dental practice.
